Cost: $25 + $10 Kit Fee to instructor on day of class

Learn two techniques that will add color to any light fabric.
You will experiment with two different methods of ice dyeing, and while the ice is melting you will play with a different piece of fabric by adding rusty objects. Time, vinegar and the sun will imprint the shapes of your objects onto the fabric.

Kit fee includes:
  • All dyes
  • Fat quarter of PFD fabric for ice dyeing
  • Soda ash, liquid dyes, vinegar solution
  • Rusty objects such as nails, washers, and screws
  • Ice and large containers for one type of ice dyeing

  • Wear old clothes
  • Rubber gloves
  • 81/2 by 10 ½ or larger old cookie sheet tray for baking, tin or metal
  • Cheap dollar store spray bottle
  • 3 large black garbage bags
  • Light pre washed cotton or muslin approx. ½ yard for rusting and an additional yard of PFD fabric or pre-washed light fabric for ice dyeing
  • Old rusty objects that you have around that you personally want to try
  • Plastic containers with LIDS OR TOPS , Should be as large as you can large cool whip containers, large plastic container for nuts 2.5 lb size, plastic coffee cans, plastic storage bowl 2 qt size. One is mandatory two will yield you 4 fat quarters of ice dyed fabric from fabric that you bring(pre Washed) or pfd fabric available at Mulqueens
  • Old microwave plastic dinner containers large enough to fit the bottom of your plastic containers above
  • Black permanent marking pen
  • Paper and pen
  • Lunch or snack
  • Old cardboard box in which all of your ice dyed containers will go to be transported home
