Description:
PFAFF/VIKING PREMIER+ or PREMIER+2 SOFTWARE - CRAZY QUILT BLOCK IN HOOP
Cost: $20 (Fee includes the pattern, software handouts, and construction handouts)
Date: Saturday Feb 10, 2018 in MAIN Building
Time: 10am to 4:00pm (approximately)
Instructor: Kat Emmelkamp

This class is for Premier+ or +2 Embroidery Software owners (with any embroidery machine that has an 8"X8" or larger hoop). If you do not own the Premier+2 software but wish to participate in making this project, you may enroll in the class and the instructor will provide you with the embroidery design will be included!

The best way to learn how to use your software is to use it. We will create a basic block and then experiment with different ways to add decorative stitches and texture to completely change the look of the quilt block. With so many design possibilities to choose from, you will love the results! Our project is to update any pre-made cushion/pillow in a flash with an embroidered pillow wrap. Perfect for changing your home decor for different seasons, holidays, or to match a new decorating scheme.

All Machine Brands are welcome! Bring your machine and we will embroider the design you have created. It’s OK if you’d rather stitch out the design at home than bringing your machine to class – your choice!

Bring your laptop (in good working condition) with Premier+ Embroidery Software installed, and bring a MOUSE for ease of use. Bring a USB “stick” to class if you wish to transfer files to and from different locations. Please REMEMBER to BRING your DONGLE if you are using Premier+.

Supplies to BRING to Class:
Cushion sized 9” to 13” – can be square or rectangle. Cushion needs to have an existing cover.
Foundation fabric that is at least ONE-inch wider on each side than the hoop you are using – muslin will work.
Various colors of main fabric to fill in the difference sections of your crazy block. You will need one that measures 9”X5”, a 7”X7” and 3 other pieces that are the same sizes or slightly smaller. The block has 5 sections. You may repeat a color or use 5 different colors. Choose fabric that does not have high-contrast designs as you will want to show off your textured stitching.
You will also need contrasting or matching fabric to construct your wrap. Unless you cushion is extremely large, 1/2 yard should be sufficient.
One piece of the light-weight fusible batting such as Pellon 987F Fusible Fleece that is 9” by 1” LONGER than the circumference of your cushion. (Please note NOT 9"X1".)
Binding Fabric that is 2-1/2” by the Circumference of your cushion plus 5” in length. You will need TWO strips of this binding.
40-wt Poly Embroidery Threads or Quilting Thread – polyester embroidery thread can be used during class with a pre-wound bobbin. 3-10 colors of your choice to match or contrast your main fabric.
Sewing Threads – I suggest a thread color to match the color of the main fabric.
Bobbin Threads – You should wind your own bobbin with matching top thread for sewing.
Embroidery Needles & Sewing Needles – a 80/12 or similar size needle that your machine prefers.
Basic Sewing Kit – long sharp pins, GOOD scissors, thread scissors, rulers, rotary cutter, water-erasable or chalk fabric markers, etc.
Sewing/Embroidery Machine in good working condition and all necessary accessories for sewing and embroidering, such as power cords, foot control, correct bobbin casing, extra bobbins (filled and empty), etc. Plus the Machine Manual just in case we need to refer to it to change settings.
The Embroidery Arm & Foot for your machine.
Required Hoop – You will need to use a hoop that is at least 200mmX200mm for this project.
Machine feet – standard feet for your machine. Optional feet - open-toe foot.
Plastic Grid Template for the hoop you are using if you own one.
Your own Iron and Pad will definitely save you time in not having to wait. A small travel iron is best for this project.
A Pressing Cloth or just a piece of light-color cotton fabric or muslin for pressing purposes.
Adhesive Spray such as KK2000.
Bring lunch or snacks so that we can sew the entire day.
