• Have you ever sewn a (faux) LEATHER bag?
• Or interfaced SILK with the proper stabilizer to create an elegant purse?
• Attached MAGNETIC SNAPS?
• Incorporate EASY zippered interior pockets?
Well, here’s calling all BAG LADIES!

Within Nancy’s one template/pattern there are 6 magnificent bag designs (with a variety of options for customizing to make it your own). This class will be great for anyone who loves PURSES, TOTES, BAGS AND MORE!

We will be trying out a wide variety of stabilizers and backing material, such as fusible and non-fusible fleece and batting; interfacing that is thin vs. thick or soft vs. stiff. You will be introduced to sewing faux leather and/or faux suede; silks and cottons; or try some “home dec” fabric if you wish.

Even a seasoned bag maker will be impressed with some of the new tools that are available to make bag construction a breeze. For the beginner, come learn some of the easy tricks and tips of the bag making trade.

So, come one, come all! Space is limited, so please call the store at 480-545-0778 to register.

We will construct a Leather Portfolio Plus in FEBRUARY, a Silk Savvy Bag in MARCH and a Chic Bag in APRIL.

SUPPLIES NEEDED:

MARCH FABRIC – 1/2 yd of good quality silk. You may need a little more if you are going to make your own silk fabric handles. Choose a silk with a design or I embroidered on mine by adding a fusible woven interfacing and a fusible heavy batting before embroidering.

MARCH LINING – 1/2 yd of any good quality fabric. I used store-bought single-sided quilted fabric to add body. If you wish, create your own quilted fabric.

MARCH INTERFACING – if your lining fabric is heavy enough you may not need any interfacing. Therefore it is your choice whether you want to add a layer of fleece or batting as the interfacing. ½ yd will be sufficient.

MARCH NOTIONS – One pair of 3/4" or 1" magnetic snaps and an 8" long zipper if you wish to add an interior pocket. Plus purchase any bag handle(s) of your choice and the instructor will assist you in adding it to your purse/bag. I constructed my own fabric handles using leftover batting and silk fabric.

APRIL FABRIC – 1/2 yd of any good quality fabric. I chose a “border” 100% cotton fabric and “fussy-cut” it to use the desired design area.

APRIL LINING & INTERFACING – 1/2 yd of store-bought or your own quilted fabric, i.e. single- or double-side with batting and fabric on one or both sides.

APRIL NOTIONS – four to five 1-inch D-rings or O-rings. (The fifth ring is used to add a decorative interest.) One pair of 3/4” OR 1” magnetic snaps and an 8” long zipper if you wish to add an interior pocket.

All notions mentioned are available at the Mulqueen Sewing Centers East Mesa store. Email the instructor at least 5 days PRIOR to the class date (or as soon as possible) if you would like to meet with the instructor for help with supplies and fabric selection.
