Description:
PFAFF/VIKING PREMIER+ SOFTWARE - PERSONALIZED MANDALA FONT CIRCLE
Cost: $20 (Fee includes the pattern, software handouts, and construction handouts)
Date: Saturday Dec 16, 2017 in MAIN Building
Time: 10am to 4:00pm (approximately)
Instructor: Kat Emmelkamp

Use the PREMIER+ Embroidery System to make fun personalized Mandala. This lesson will focus on how to use available tools and features to create some one of-a-kind embroideries.

We will use letters, tools within letters, rotation, and mirroring tools to create this project. We will be working in ‘pie slices’ to make these. No need to get overwhelmed as this is simpler to create than it looks. You will want to make one for everyone!

Bring your laptop (in good working condition) with Premier+ Embroidery Software installed, and bring a MOUSE for ease of use. Bring a USB “stick” to class if you wish to transfer files to and from different locations. Please REMEMBER to BRING your DONGLE if you are using Premier+.

All Machine Brands are welcome! If you are a non-owner but wish to view a demo of the remarkable Premier+ Software packages please contact the instructor by email. If you need help with installing your software, please contact the instructor several days in advance so that an installation meeting can be set up prior to class.

Supplies to BRING to Class:
One or two purchased light-weight cotton napkins. (I STRONGLY SUGGEST THAT YOU PRE-WASH the Napkins and Appliqué Fabric in HOT WATER PRIOR to embroidering on them.)
Stabilizers – a medium-weight tearaway stabilizer, such as Floriani Stitch N Wash OR Floriani Stitch N Wash Fusible. This tearaway is a little sturdier than Floriani Medium Tearaway.
ALSO a medium-weight cutaway mesh-type stabilizer such as Floriani No Show Nylon Mesh Fusible. You need enough of each stabilizer so that it is at least one-inch wider on each side than the hoop you are using. We have time to embroider more than one design during class therefore bring enough for multiple hoopings.
Fabric for Appliqué Background – same size as the above stabilizers. Bring enough for multiple hoopings. (In order to “show off” your font art prominently, do not select highly decorated fabric.)
Required Hoop – a small hoop is needed for this project, for example 100mmX100mm, 120mmX120mm, 140mmX140mm, 150mmX150mm or 130mmX180mm.
40-wt Poly or Rayon Embroidery Threads – you will need several thread colors, it all depends on the design you plan on embroidering. Choose any color of your choice – for my sample, I matched the thread color to the color of my napkin for the satin border.
Bobbin Threads – You can either wind your own bobbin with the matching top thread OR use 60 wt pre wound bobbin thread. I do suggest that you use matching top and bobbin thread for the satin border of your appliqué as it will show on the underside.
Embroidery Needles – a 80/12 or similar size needle that your machine prefers.
Basic Sewing Kit – long sharp pins, GOOD scissors, thread scissors, rulers, rotary cutter, water-erasable or chalk fabric markers, etc.
The Embroidery Arm & Foot for your machine.
Plastic Grid Template for the hoop you are using if you own one.
Sewing/Embroidery Machine in good working condition and all necessary accessories for sewing and embroidering, such as power cords, foot control, correct bobbin casing, extra bobbins (filled and empty), etc. Plus the Machine Manual just in case we need to refer to it to change settings.
Your own Iron and Pad will definitely save you time in not having to wait. A small travel iron is best for this project.
A Pressing Cloth or just a piece of light-color cotton fabric or muslin for pressing purposes.
Applique Pressing Sheet if you own one.
Adhesive Spray such as KK2000.
Suggested Useful Tools – a plastic stylus (that may have come with your machine) or a stiletto.
Bring lunch or snacks so that we can sew the entire day.

Please PRINT this page so that you have a list of the supplies you need to bring with you to class :)
