The EmbroidaBlock program consists of:
  • 36 Blocks
  • Quilt As You Go
  • New Techniques unique to this quilt such as trapunto, layering, pleats & tucks and textures!
  • Pieced, Decorative Stitched, Embroidered and Quilted all in the hoop
  • Full Color Slide Shows for each month
  • Block sizes 8x8 - finished size 50" x 50" (66" x 66" with optional border
  • Block sizes 5x5 - finished size 30" x 30" (40" x 40" with optional border)
  • Optional border designs and instructions

Come join us to have some fun and learn this new quilt technique using your embroidery machine. I'll bet you didn't know your machine could do this!

Who should attend:
  • Embroidery machine owners who want to extend the usefullness of their machines
  • Expert quilters who don't think they need an embroidery machine to quilt!
  • Novice quilters who want to take their quilting to the next level
  • People interested in becoming quilters without the frustration of traditional methods

EmbroidaBlock works on all Embroidery machines -- including Janome, Viking, Bernina, Pfaff, Brother, Babylock, Singer or any other popular brands.
You must own an embroidery machine to take this class.

These blocks are all done “in-the-hoop”, so the block is finished when you complete the embroidery. Choose your own fabric colors or sign up ahead of time for a kit made up of the fabric we used for our sample. The start-up CD you receive will have all the information you need to choose your fabric if you wish to do that.

You will choose either the 5” or 8” designs, depending on which machine you own. All machines with a 5x7 or larger hoop will work for the 5” designs. The Janome 11000 and the Brother Quattro machines have 8x8 hoops that work for the 8” designs.

The techniques used in this quilt are very different from the ones we are using in the Crazy Compass 2009 quilt. They have added a technique for “textures” in month 5 that is very unique and fun. Each of the blocks has a section with Trapunto, which adds a 3-D effect. They have also included “layering”, “tucks and pleats”, and an optional stipple border to make the quilt larger if you wish to.

We will present a slide show each month of the block instructions along with a demo of how the block is constructed. You do not need to bring your machine. You will receive your designs on a CD each month & you will need to complete four of each block. You will choose either the 5” or 8” designs, depending on which machine you own. All machines with a 5x7 or larger hoop will work for the 5” designs. The Janome 11000 and the Brother Quattro machines have 8x8 hoops that work for the 8” designs.

NOTE: You must bring your CD back with you every month in order to receive the next month’s design. You will have all of the designs and instructions loaded on the CD by the end of the 10 months.

The initial CD you will receive once you have paid for the first month includes the following:
• Welcome letter from Hoopsisters
• 8 Color Ways (helps you choose your colors)
• Organization files to help get you started
• EQ6 file of the TNT quilt (use this to select your colors in EQ6)

Print out the pages provided on the CD and you should have all the information you need to get started selecting your fabric and threads. Hoopsisters recommends using Floriani No Show Mesh stabilizer and Quilters Dream Select batting. The amount needed will depend on which size quilt you will be making and which hoop you intend to use. Measure the amount of stabilizer you would normally use when hooping and you will need that amount for 36 blocks (plus maybe one or two extra if you need to repeat a block). You will need that same amount for batting because the stabilizer and batting are hooped together. We sell the batting pre-packaged in all quilt sizes, plus in a roll that is 18” wide, sold by the yard.

Hoopsisters has a new product out called “Battilizer” that is a combination of batting and stabilizer. It is stable enough to sustain the areas of dense embroidery, yet will remain very soft. You would not need to purchase batting or stabilizer separately if you choose to use this new product.
