Yarn Scarf/Belt – This fun project is a great way to get rid of the many scraps of silk ribbons, yarns and old metallic threads that we find so hard to part with!  Have fun

Supplies Needed:  Floriani Fusible Wet N Gone®

·   Teflon Pressing Sheet

·   Floriani Water Soluble Topping

·  Various Cuts and Pieces of Yarns, Threads, Ribbons and Fabric Scraps (Use varieties of textures and colors)

 ·  Teflon Presser Foot or Free Motion Quilting Foot

Step One:  Cut the Floriani Fusible Wet N Gone® one inch larger than the desired size.

Step Two:  With the fusible side up arrange the yarns and threads the length and width of the stabilizer.

Step Three:  Place the pressing sheet on top of the yarns and threads and press them into place with a low temperature iron.

*Note:  Don’t “iron”, this will move the yarns and threads out of place.

Step Four:  Cut a piece of Water Soluble Topping the length and width of the Wet N Gone® and pin it on top of the fused yarns and threads.

Step Five:  Using a complimentary thread (cotton, rayon, metallic or polyester), begin stitching through the layers.  Some successful stitching methods include:  stitching a ½” grid using a regular straight stitch, random S’s using a straight stitch, stipple quilting, built in decorative stitches (not satin stitches), or a combination of several.  *Note:  It is important that the threads interlock with the various ribbons and threads. This will ensure a sturdy foundation.

Step Six:  Using an organdy, rayon or silk ribbon finish the edges if desired by sewing the ribbon around the edge of the scarf/belt.

Step Seven:  Rinse the scarf  by submerging it in the sink in luke warm water, rinse it under running water and then let it soak again for several minutes in another bath of clean water.

Step Eight:  Let the scarf/belt air dry on a towel.

Step Nine:  Finish the scarf/belt ends by attaching beads or fringe
