Miele S514 Solaris vacuum cleaners are allergy
friendly HEPA sealed vacuums that are an excellent choice
without paying over the top. The Solaris line includes 3
different models for different cleaning needs. The Miele
Solaris Electro offers an SEB 213-2
Powerbrush and Parquet-2 floor
tool and a direct connect wand - suited best for
those with mostly wall to wall carpeting of all densities
and any bare floor surfaces. The Solaris Turbo vacuum is
best for cleaning lighter denisities of low to medium height
pile carpets and bare floors thanks to an included air
driven turbo brush and Parquet-2 floor tool. The standard
Solaris vacuum is for those with mostly bare floors and some
scatter rugs due to a combination rug and floor tool. With
longer lasting Intensive Clean fiber material (not paper)

The Solaris HEPA
vacuum cleaner is a midsize canister vacuum cleaner that is
more powerful than the Miele White Star. The Miele vacuum
cleaners are excellent products and this one is no
exception.
Pluses:
Sealed HEPA filtration:
All of the Miele S514 Solaris and Moon vacuum cleaners
are the first vacuum cleaners to be independently
certified to be true HEPA sealed vacuum cleaner systems.
This means the dust and other allergens that you vacuum
will stay in the vacuum cleaner where they belong
instead of exhausting into the air as in some other
vacuum cleaners.
Telescopic Wand:
The Solaris vacuum cleaners from Miele all come with
telescopic 14 inch adjustable wands. We love the
flexibility that this feature gives us allowing us to
clean low and high by effortlessly changing the length
of the wand.
Surge Protected Motor:
Miele changed the way the motors power on in the Solaris
and Moon vacuum cleaners so that they now power on like
a computer - gradually to protect against power surges.
Easy Access Onboard
Tools: Housed on board the Miele for easy access.
Intuitively easy to change and all worked well. The
natural bristle dusting brush was soft enough for the
best of antique furniture. The result for all our
testers was that they were encouraged to do a more
thorough cleaning job than usual. Difficult tasks such
as stairs, pleated lampshades, high ledges, under the
refrigerator, and venetian blind vacuuming were among
the tasks mentioned as being easier to accomplish.
Good maneuverability:
All testers found this vacuum cleaner to be light
weight, and its swivel technology made changing
directions and accessing awkward spots a real breeze.

Neat storage with wand
park system: This vacuum feature allows the turbo
nozzle to rest upright against the machine when not in
use was also praised for facilitating neat storage.
Wand park system:
Allows the nozzle to rest upright against the Miele S514
Solaris vacuum cleaner facilitating neat storage. The
hose park feature was changed in the Solaris line of
vacuum cleaners from a one point to a two point system
for more stability when you are not using the machine.
Canister Bumper guard:
Miele increased the height of the rubber canister bumper
guard and lowered it on the Miele S514 Solaris vacuum
cleaner which really served to protect our furniture
while we moved it from place to place.
Effective lightweight
powerbrush on Solaris Electro: There was no task
that this SEB213-2 powerbrush did not tackle with
superlative efficiency. There were almost no visible
lint particulates left on dark colored carpets. We could
literally hear the lightweight (two lbs.) Miele
powerhead suck up the dirt from our carpets.
Down
Side:
No fingertip controls: We would have liked finger
tip controls as found on the higher priced Miele Blue
Moon and Miele Silver Moon vacuum cleaners. All motor
controls are on the canister in the Solaris line.
Upholstery tool and
pet hair: We did find we needed to use the optional
mini turbo hand brush sold below for removing layers of
cat hair from dark velvet cushions since the regular
upholstery attachment did an adequate but not perfect
job.
Small vacuum bags:
The bags are relatively small (4.5 quarts) because of
the space used by on board tools stored in the canister,
and we needed to change them every 2-3 weeks. If you
want a large capacity vacuum bag you will need to
consider a full size
Miele Blue Moon
vacuum cleaner.
Speed Control Dial:
The speed control dial is on the canister of the Miele
Solaris vacuums and not on the wand, which is just a
little less convenient.
Summary:
The Solaris vacuum cleaners offer improvements over the
Miele Red Star and White Star vacuum cleaners. Solaris are
more powerful vacuums due to increased airflow from a wider
designed vacuum hose, and have a larger operating radius.
They also offer 2 point wand parking vs. 1 point in the Red
and White Stars, and the Solaris Electro model includes a
telescopic wand rather than a 2 piece wand. All Solaris
vacuums include onboard tools which are easy to use for
cleaning upholstery, dusting furniture and draperies as
well.
